As-built
A record drawing or dataset showing what was actually installed in the field (locations, depths, sizes, materials), which may differ from the original design.
Bedding
Material placed under and around pipe/conduit to provide support, protect from point loads, and help maintain grade and alignment.
Daylighting
Exposing a buried utility by careful excavation (often vacuum excavation) to confirm exact location, depth, and orientation.
Hydrovac (vacuum excavation)
A non-destructive excavation method that uses pressurized water and a vacuum system to remove soil and expose utilities.
Locate / Markout
The process of identifying and marking underground utilities on the surface using paint/flags and records so excavation can proceed safely.
Trench box (shield)
